The Legend of Zelda is an action-adventure game franchise developed by the game company Nintendo.

The series is centered around the main character, Link, an elf-like being, tasked to save Princess Zelda from the clutches of Ganon, the antagonist of the series. Link will have to travel across the fictional land of Hyrule to rescue the princess. This is not always the case as sometimes both Zelda and Link face other villains or other beings. Some games include a relic known as the Triforce which represents three values: Wisdom, Power and Courage.

In most Legend of Zelda games, gameplay is revolved around puzzles, action, action RPG, exploration and adventure. Gameplay encourages exploration with rewards and areas to discover such as dungeons and caves. While these areas and quests are open to the game, it doesn't detract from the main story of the game and serves as a reward to the player with additional items and tools.

All games of the series involves many items, some recurring and some new. These includes common items such as the Triforce, Master Sword, Hylian Shield, Fairies, and Boomerangs. Certain items serve crucial to the story such as the Ocarina of Time. All of these items are given to the player to utilize and progress throught the story.
